Mark and Zach Make Friends With Creativity |
A weekly back and forth of picture exchanges meant to keep the lazy out and the inspiration in. With Mark Johnson and Zach Hoskin. |
Well, it’s been a crazy week. The result is a late, and rather shoddy entry. But in the spirit of things, I figured it was more important to make and post something, regardless of the outcome. This guy just wasn’t working for me from the start, but I think I’ll be back to give him another shot sometime.
Mark: Here is my ultra late entry for this week. Just a simple water color painting, and added a textured background with photoshop.
So, we had this last minute idea for this event called Illuminate. There’s going to be music during the evening part, and since people will be making lanterns and such during the day, we figured we’d try to collect as much light as we could, and set them around the playing area. I figured that this was a perfect reason to get my craft on. These are just some glass jars with acrylic paint and paint pens on them. Three of the jars are lit by LED throwies (which are awesome and definitely worth the google), and one is with a 9V, 3 LED’s, and a toggle switch on the top.
Happy Friday the 13th. This is a laser etched notebook with a nice little life lesson. I came across this internet gem a while back and wanted to remake it in my style, and it’s just by luck that today is Friday the 13th, how perfect!
Enjoy

I made this as a gift for my pal, Sandra. I found this jar in some second store awhile ago. I thought it was a cool shape and was excited to paint on it, but it’s just been sitting there on my shelf, staring me down. I finally had a reason to finish it. Gifts are a pretty awesome motivational tool to getting shit done. So, go make something and give it someone, it’ll make you both feel nice!
This was done with acrylics and paint pens.

Mark: So here is the conclusion to the Iron Sharpens Iron mens bible study group logo. They wanted a revamp of their previous logo which was a little stale. I first did a bunch of sketches then took it into Photoshop, then polished it in Illustrator. I then had it etched with a laser into a piece of anodized aluminium. Thanks to all who helped with this one.
Zach: I would have rejected your design in favour of the original. That’s just a perfect example of tight, clean design.
I don’t really have a nifty story behind this one. Was feeling a little geometric I guess… I think I’ll call him Checker Face.
Made this little fella for my Poppa, who would do unspeakable things to Neil Young if given the opportunity.

I am going to title this one: Diamonds Aren’t Forever! Once again made this out of Walnut and finished with the dark Danish oil. The majority of the work was done with a bandsaw and then shaped with a disk sander. The stand is made from thin acrylic and shaped with a torch. I have no real inspiration behind this one other than I thought it would look freakin cool.
